One of the changes I’ve made since I started Weight Watchers is to slowly move to a mostly vegetarian diet. Moriningstar Farms Meal starters are fewer points than turkey or beef.
I was also very influenced by Michael Pollan’s In Defense of Food and The Omnivore’s Dilemma, which talk about how the factory farming of our meat not only isn’t good for the animals and the environment, but the meat itself is affected. I decided I was ok with eating meat, but would try to eat organic/free range. That kind of meat is expensive, especially if you’re like me and you buy it but forget to cook it.
Which leads me to… beans! Let’s all sing:
Beans, beans, they’re good for your diet
They help to keep your belly quiet
The quieter the belly, the better you’ll feel
So eat beans at every meal!
Ok, so I have to work on the third line.
Anyway, I just ordered a mess of artisan beans from Rancho Gordo, and also ordered their book. Is it crazy to buy beans that cost approximately 5x the amount they cost at Lucky’s? Maybe!
